DETROIT, MICHIGAN — Five years into building The Naptime Show, founder Sierra Boone still finds it surreal to see how far the family-run production has come. What began as a vision for children's entertainment has grown into a broader community presence, reaching audiences beyond Detroit while remaining rooted in the city where it began.
For Boone, that growth is about more than expanding an audience. It's about creating children's media that feels real. At a time when artificial intelligence is increasingly shaping digital content, The Naptime Show is committed to a hands-on approach, built around original characters, human performance, and the people who bring the production to life. The show's sheep character, Bahb, was created by a costume designer in Grand Rapids, Michigan, while Boone's father, Eric Boone, serves as the show's ventriloquist and also appears as Mr. Boots. The production is a family affair in the truest sense: relatives, local creatives, and community partners have all found ways to contribute, whether through voices, characters, or work behind the scenes.
That commitment to homegrown production is continuing to take shape in a new way. The Naptime Show is developing Fruit Snack Streams, a streaming service intended specifically for daycare providers and childcare organizations. The team has also secured a building in Detroit's Corktown neighborhood, where it is gradually creating a dedicated studio and home for the next chapter of the project.
Five years in, Boone's story is one of growth without losing sight of the original vision. From Michigan-made characters to a family-powered production and new plans for distribution, The Naptime Show is building children's media on its own terms with Detroit at its center.
The Naptime Show studio opening celebration is scheduled for October 24 at 5 p.m. Message them for more info!
